March 9th, 2009 Roger Norbeck, Bella Vista, Arkansas, joined the Foundation as a member of the Board of Directors March 2, 2010 The City Council of Grove, OK approved a Memorandum of Understanding partnering with the Foundation to prepare a Watershed Improvement Plan for the Grove community.
January 14th, 2010: Founation meets with Oklahoma Congressman Dan Boren about strategic issues facing the Grand Lake Watershed and the need for a four-state collective effort to reduce risks to water quality.
December 13, 2009: Kansas Water Office has received $863,000 from EPA Region 7, Kansas City, for the purpose of completing a stream erosion project on about a 8.3 mile reach on the Neosho River. Kansas is contributing $300,000 for this $1.3 million project.

FOUNDATION PURPOSE

The purpose of the Foundation is to be an active voice on behalf of the water in our 10,298 square mile watershed. We work together with all local, state, and federal agencies. We will provide educational information which is an essential component in achieving water quality improvement. The Foundation provides a means and method for citizens and stakeholders to have a voice in their watershed. We support other citizen-based watershed organizations. We are committed to work with the scientific community. We will coordinate with and interface with local, state, and federal government water quality related agencies. The Foundation will also be a source of private funds to support water quality improvement efforts.

The 10,298 square mile Grand Lake Watershed provides a significant regional economic impact in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Protecting water quality is essential.

According to The Grand River Dam Authority, there were 162 fishing tournments held on Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees during 2009 with about 14,250 anglers participating. GRDA estimated the economic impact from these tournments to be about $1.7 million in 2009.
